Night Wire
Night Wire is an ongoing project examining the hidden electromagnetic soundscapes of our world. Featured here is the first in a series of location-based pieces and was recorded at Housel Bay in Cornwall via air and software-defined radio.
Early spiritualists and engineers alike considered radio a means to communicate with dimensions beyond our own. Cromwell Fleetwood Varley, one of the engineers responsible for the laying of the Atlantic telegraph cables, thought it could be used to listen in to the conversations between angels. In the present day we are suffused by invisible broadcast and utility signals, and there are plenty of ghosts to be heard - signals that help us navigate, keep our watches running, open doors for us, sing to us.
More location-based pieces are forthcoming, along with an album focussing on parts of our technological infrastructure and a performance at Curio Festival in Feb 2026.
